With the lights off and the Tibetan singing bowl loop going the group of first graders in my class were sitting, laying, and squating around my room concentrating on the sounds. I moved quietly among them and reminded the odd child to close their eyes. Simon was at the front of the class by the whiteboard. Ohhhmmming away to himself with his hands up, pointer finger to thumb. I hadn't told him to do this, but apparently he a a good number of the other students in the class were in the know on what do while meditating in Chinese class. "In through the nose, out through the mouth." I reminded them. "Focus on your breathing." My class of first graders were just amazing. After I turned off the the meditation track we had a discussion about Tibetan singing bowls, prayer, meditation and ascetics. I do love my job. Having my own child in the class makes it only sweeter still.
