Steve Poltz

Rachel, Ingrid and I just heard this guy on the Mountain Stage radio show. The best story starts at 15:55 but the whole show is good.

I find, more and more, that my stories are lackluster. It's not that the events in my life have waned in excellence, but for the last few years somehow my mind stutters when I try to construct a narrative. Steve Poltz has inspired me to work up those story-telling muscles and begin again.

I cannot acknowledge the obvious without feeling uneasy

Alex Caldiero performed Monday night in my dreaded freshman Landscape Architecture auditorium. He sat slowly, waited for the room to fill 2/3, and began. Quotes that shook my literately communicative world follow:

No thing but words divide us.
No thing but words unite us.

I've wanted to call this thing a chair for so long I almost forgot its name.

I go to my bank when I want to be loved.
They have such great service.

I didn't want to rush into things. I dare say becoming an American citizen was a spiritual experience. But I maintain my individuality. Every man is an islander, every man stands alone, absolutely, absolutely, and it gives me opportunities to feel myself.

Chances are you're hallucinating. But don't let that stop you.

Sweet as mango pickle

Stopped by police five times. Met our destined Robert. Offered rides four times. Rested 11 times. Ached in the bones oh ached in the bones.

Presidents Day Walkabout

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=109785833549821719170.00047f3923688b7d75808&t=h&z=8

This is where Daniel Riding, Jessie Woods, Eric Randall, and Sam Abbott are walking this weekend. Friday depart 3 pm from Logan. Sleep in Brigham City. Saturday depart 7 am. Sleep in Farmington. Sunday depart 6:30 pm. Sleep in Murray.
It should be cold, and boring, and frustrating, and time consuming. Everyone we've talked to about it thinks it's a wasted weekend. The snowy wet morning today has made me nervous. But how many people can say they walked from Logan to the great Salt Lake Valley? I don't know any in this century.
If anybody is driving the wasatch front this weekend, look for soggy walkers.

The Troll

Woke up this morning at Nate and Ellie's, Simon's quote about my pimples:
Daddy, look what's on Sam's face.
What is it Simon?
He put blueberries on his face last night. It's funny.

I don't by any means condone the destruction of Volkswagons of any sort, but the Troll's mission of binding community and promoting bicycles is one I believe in.
